Starting college is an exciting yet challenging experience for many students. You probably have several questions about your college journey, and you may not know where to look for assistance. We want to ease your mind by providing important resources you can rely on when unsure of your next step. In addition to the links listed below, keep in mind you still have your Financial Aid Counselors, Guidance Counselors, and your EOC Adviser to assist. You are not in this alone. 

ONLINE RESOURCES 

  • Grammarly: An app that checks your writing for grammar and spelling errors to help you proofread your assignments. 

  • Hemingway App: An online editor helping you streamline your writing.

  • PaperWritings: A writing service that can help with essays and other assignments. 

  • Getting Smart: A website that provides resources and information on education and technology.

  • Cram: An app that offers thousands of flashcards on a variety of subjects and you can create your own flashcards.

  • Purdue OWL: An app that allows students resources to writing exercises, citation guides for MLA, APA, and Chicago Style, and subject-specific writing tips.

  • Study Guides and Strategies: Students have a variety of guides to explore along with tips on learning and studying with ADHD. They also provide strategies for effective online learning, project management, decision making, and studying with a group.  

  • Insight Timer: A free meditation app to ensure students rest and are rejuvenated for classes. 

  • Google Docs: a top productivity tool that allows users to create documents in numerous styles and formats. Users can convert documents back and forth between Google and Microsoft Word. 

  • NerdWallet: An app providing information regarding your college budget.

TIPS FOR MENTAL WELL-BEING WHEN GOING OFF TO COLLEGE:

  • Reach out to your family and friends back home

  • Make your surroundings feel like home: pictures, favorite blanket, etc.

  • Self-Care: get enough sleep, exercise, and have a balanced diet

  • Don't overload yourself with courses:

Anxiety continues to be the most common diagnosis of the students that seek services at university counseling centers.

REMEMBER TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF. YOU CAN'T POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP.

GETTING ORGANIZED CAN HELP ELIMINATE ANXIETY. HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO GETTING ORGANIZED:

  • Use a planner daily

  • Notebooks/Binders/Files

  • Keep course information and syllabus in front of your notebook or binder

  • Regularly back up and organize your computer files.

  • Develop routines

  • Create a study plan: know what time of day you study best, and create a study plan that works for you.

  • Eliminate clutter by getting rid of anything you don't need.

  • Use a monthly wall calendar as a reminder of important dates

MANAGING YOUR TIME ALSO HELPS ELIMINATE ANXIETY. HERE ARE SOME TIPS TO MANAGING YOUR TIME:

  • Create To Do lists and rate each task in order of importance.

  • Stay Organized

  • Create a weekly schedule and review it each week.

  • Create routines to ensure you have enough time to get to class early. On time is late.

  • Identify time that is wasted and eliminate those missed opportunities to study.

  • Do not procrastinate

  • Learn to say "no", and do not let anything get in the way of your course work

  • Combine Tasks. For example: You can study while washing laundry.

  • Do not overextend yourself by committing to numerous events at one time.
